HARTLEPOOL RURAL PLAN
Our gateway to the future
Welcome to the homepage of the Hartlepool Rural Plan.
In 2011, the Localism Act 2011 introduced Neighbourhood Planning into the national planning system, giving communities the opportunity to shape how their area is developed in the future.
In March 2011, the Hartlepool Rural Plan Working Group, supported by Hartlepool Borough Council was successful with its application to become a Front Runner and a Working Group comprising representation from each of the villages was established to drive forward the development of the Plan. Since that time, the Group have been engaging with the local community to developing the draft Plan, ensuring it reflects the aspirations of the community whilst also gathering key pieces of evidence about the Rural area. Collectively, we want to make the Rural area a better place to live, work and visit for now and for future generations.
A great deal of work on the Plan has been undertaken to date, and it is envisaged the Plan will focus on the following areas:
• Rural Economy
• Transport and Movement
• Natural Environment
• Built Environment
• Heritage & Conservation
Every resident can be involved in creating the Plan, and we’ll all have a chance to vote on it in a referendum. If it’s approved, it becomes a legal document that will govern all future planning decisions for the next 10-15 years. This is an important time for our area and we would urge as many people as possible to get involved. If you would like more information, please contact the email address below.
We look forward to working with you.
